The importance of ocean exploration

Current exploration

The ocean needs to be explored because 80% of it is still unknown according to national geographic from their Ocean entry in this link.

Future exploration

That remaining 80% is important because the ocean won’t be here forever. That’s not just a saying, according to Mary Hoff, a prominent science communicator and the chief editor of the Ensisa, which is created by the UN , by 2050 coral reefs will be gone without a large amount of intervention

Although there is little knowledge on the oceans, from the 20% that have been explored scientists not only discovered how the most damaging earthquakes are formed through subduction zones, which are mainly under the ocean, but also discovered in 2020 that the condition for a subduction earthquake will create better earthquake predictions and more information on how to dampen earthquake. Plus scientist have made new discoveries about coral reefs that will help restore them, which is importance is on this page.
